Rotary Club of White River

Welcome to the Rotary Club of White Rivers’ website! Our club is situated in the Lowveld of the province of Mpumalanga, South Africa, which is a premier tourist destination. The picturesque town of White River is situated only 25 minutes from the Kruger National Park and is close to some of the most interesting gold discoveries in South African history as well as to some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country

Thank you for your interest in the Rotary Club of White River. We are a vibrant Rotary Club serving the community of White River, Mpumalanga, South Africa. We have outlined some of our projects on our website but for more up to date information on what is happening please have at look at our newsletters on the “Downloads” tab as well as our Facebook page which you can access by clicking on the link on the “Home” page.

It was destiny that brought Neha and me to White River. We met in the final year of my degree course. In traditional Indian culture, it was an arranged marriage. After meeting each other twice we decided to marry and spent our honeymoon at the Pine Lake Inn on the edge of White River.

But we did not actually live in the area until some years later. I had grown up in Johannesburg, matriculated in Durban and, under pressure from my parents, studied commerce at Wits University. However my real interest was in electrical engineering, so my heart was not committed to my studies!

After our marriage, we started a clothing alteration business in central Johannesburg. Sadly we experienced many armed robberies which decided us to move to Zimbabwe where Neha had her roots. We spent seven years there running a hardware business before returning to South Africa.

Having always felt an attachment to the Lowveld, we settled in White River and have been running a successful men’s clothing retail store in town for the past 13 years.

My son Nakul is now 21 years old and is studying Information Science at the University of Pretoria hopefully completing his degree this year. He attended Flamboyant School in White River and I retain a special interest in its operation and activities. Nakul is a regular helper and supporter of one of our club’s keystone projects Camp Quality, an annual holiday for children diagnosed with cancer.

I joined the Rotary Club of White River in 2005 and Neha joined Rotary Anns. The club has many special people who generously welcomed us. We have made some great friends with Rotarians over the years and I firmly believe that the strength of our fellowship binds us within this small community.

My passion since I was a teenager has been keeping fish and I also enjoy tinkering with cars and do my own servicing. Since we have entered the computer age much of my time is spent glued to the screen. I wish it were not so sometimes as it is beginning to rule our lives! Indeed I would not be able to lead our club had I not owned one.

As Neha and I run the business together, she is not a full time housewife, but she enjoys cooking, knitting and pottering in the garden. She completed her matric in India and then went on to complete a course in hairdressing and beauty therapy. Hence I never need to visit the barber!

I welcome you to visit us at one of our weekly meetings on Mondays at 19h00 at Ingwenyama Lodge.

Rotary’s Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
